Start with the publisher
Look at the developer or publisher name, the official store listing and whether the app has a clear support or contact path. If an app claims to represent a familiar brand, check that the publisher information matches the brand’s official channels.
Read the permissions
Permissions should make sense for the features you intend to use. A notes app may need storage access for attachments, while an app with no obvious reason to access contacts deserves more scrutiny.
Check pricing
Look for one-time charges, subscriptions, in-app purchases, free-trial renewal terms and cancellation instructions. Do not assume that “free download” means the service is completely free.
Review privacy information
Read the store privacy section and, when available, the publisher’s privacy policy. Pay attention to the categories of data collected, why it is used and whether information may be shared with third parties.
Check the recent user experience
Ratings can provide context, but read several recent reviews rather than relying on the average score alone. Look for recurring complaints about billing, crashes, support or unwanted behavior.
